The Doctors
“Next to life, itself
God’s most precious gift is sight. And to the ministry of this great gift, The profession of optometry dedicates itself.” Dr. Helena Nguyen, O.D.
Dr. Helena Nguyen started Optima Optometry in 1993 with a single purpose of providing the best eye health care to her patients
under the same philosophy of her alma mater, Southern California College of Optometry.
Dr. Nguyen practices full scope optometry including comprehensive eye exam, expert contact lens fitting, diagnoses eye and systemic diseases thru the eyes,
effective treatment of contact lens complications, licensed in CRT (Corneal Reshaping Therapy), comanage glaucoma, lasik surgery and cataract surgery.
Dr. Nguyen has worked at various optometry clinics, including Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic in Los Angeles,
the Fort Ord Army Medical Center, the Allergan Research Clinic and the Optometric Centers in Los Angeles and Fullerton, California.
Prior to becoming a Doctor of Optometry, Dr. Nguyen also completed her Bachelor of Science degree in
Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of California, Davis.
Combining both her software engineering and health science discipline, Dr. Nguyen believes in using the latest,
state of the art technology to achieve the best results for medical diagnosis and treatment of patient eye health.
Besides equipping her office with the best possible medical tools,
Dr. Nguyen also strives to become a better doctor through actively listening to her patient needs and feedbacks.
Dr. Nguyen number one motto is to treat patients as they are members of her own family.
Dr. Nguyen is a member of the American Optometric Associations (AOA)
and a TLC Affiliated Doctor.
She also volunteers with the Project Vietnam Foundation,
a nonprofit humanitarian organization working to create sustainable pediatric healthcare in Vietnam,
while providing free healthcare and aid to impoverished rural areas across the country.
Dr. Tina Doan Truong, O.D.
I received my doctorate from the same alma mater as Dr. Helena Nguyen.
My passion in optometry allowed me to graduate with honors and gain a spot in the national optometric honor society, Beta Sigma Kappa.
My training at Southern California College of Optometry taught me that education is vital in proper patient care.
I also believe in preventative, patient centered eye care.
My wide array of clinical experiences include: Hoopes Refractive Surgery Center, Veteran’s Affairs hospitals,
Navy base hospitals, the Eye Care Center at Fullerton and various private practices.
All of these experiences have helped me be confident in providing full-scope vision care,
co-manage LASIK, PRK, cataract surgeries, and various ocular diseases including dry eyes,
glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration.
I also enjoy fitting rigid gas permeable contact lenses,
fitting computer glasses and providing comprehensive eye exams for school aged children.
As an active member of the optometry community, I am a part of the American Optometric Association,
the California Optometric Association and the Santa Clara County Optometric Society.
As a part of these societies, I am also an active co-chair of the Society Project- promoting the role of optometry to the community.
In my free time, I love to cook, spend time with my family including my dog, and explore the outdoors.
Dr. Tina M. Doan is a familiar face around the office as she used to work at Optima Optometry before going to Optometry school.
At that time, she worked as an optometric technician, handling the front desk and performing pre-test procedures.
That position allowed her to solidify her desire to pursue optometry as a career.
We are thrilled to have her back as an optometrist.
Dr. Yili Young
Our eyes tell us a lot about our health and physical wellness. Once I found a brain tumor in a teenage girl after performing a comprehensive eye exam,
which was later confirmed by a head CT scan. Her tumor was successfully removed.
I’m glad to have caught this potentially life threatening health problem in a timely manner.
This is one of the reasons why I love my profession as an Optometrist.
My undergraduate study in molecular cell biology and my work experiences led me to pursue my doctor of optometry degree at
University of California, Berkeley, where I received training for full scope of optometric practice.
Through my training, I completed clinical rotations at University of California, San Francisco, Veteran’s Affairs and Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento,
and La Clinica de la Raza in Oakland.
Through my clinical experiences, I realized the importance of patient education in eye health and vision loss prevention.
I strive to learn the latest vision research and technologies, so that I can provide effective and up to date eye care.
In the past few years, I have been working in private optometry offices where I practice a comprehensive scope of eye care including CRT
(corneal refractive therapy), synergized hybrid contact lenses, RGPs (rigid gas permeable) contact lenses fitting,
computer glasses fitting, treating infections, chronic dry eye diseases, co-management of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration,
LASIK, and cataract surgeries.
In addition to passion in optometry, I am a mother raising two young twin girls.
With the support of my loving husband and family, I am able to make time for jogging and gardening.
